A Lagos State Government director, Serifat Talabi, tragically passed away just four days before her scheduled retirement from public service and 60th birthday celebration.
Reports revealed that Talabi was knocked down by a hit-and-run driver on Saturday while attempting to cross the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near the Redemption Camp in Ogun State.
According to a source in the state civil service, Talabi served as the Director of Procurement at the Lagos State Resident Registration Agency (LASSRA). Efforts to save her life proved futile as she was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Another insider disclosed that Talabi was originally set to retire on October 13, but rescheduled her send-off and birthday event to October 22 to allow the agency’s General Manager to attend. Invitations for the celebration had already been printed and distributed before the unfortunate incident.
An invitation card obtained by PUNCH Metro indicated that the event was to be held at the NERDC Conference Centre, Ikeja.
Meanwhile, The Eagle Online reported that the family has released her burial arrangements. A wake is scheduled for October 23, 2025, while the burial service will take place the following day at 10, Ore-Ofe Street, Ara Hall Bus Stop, Ibafo, Ogun State.
Efforts to reach LASSRA’s spokesperson, Basirat Lawal, and Ogun State Police PRO, Omolola Odutola, were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
Talabi’s death adds to the growing number of hit-and-run incidents along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and other major routes connecting Lagos and Ogun states.
