The Lagos State Government has shut down the Ladipo Spare Parts Market located along the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa–Oshodi Expressway) following allegations of persistent environmental violations.
The announcement was made on Sunday by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, via a post on X.
He wrote, “Lagos State government, this morning, sealed Ladipo Spare Parts Market along Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa–Oshodi Expressway) over repeated environmental infractions; indiscriminate refuse disposal on the median/highway and illegal street trading. #ZeroToleranceLagos.”
The closure was carried out by operatives of the Lagos taskforce as part of the state’s continued enforcement efforts to uphold environmental regulations, curb street trading, and address poor waste disposal practices.
Ladipo Market, a well-known spare parts centre in Mushin, has a history of similar sanctions. In 2023, Online reported that the state government reopened the market after it satisfied required environmental and sanitation conditions.
At the time, the Public Affairs Director of the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Kadiri Folashade, stated that operations resumed only after the market complied with established waste management guidelines.
Wahab had also reiterated that the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu prioritises environmental hygiene, public health, and safety in alignment with the THEMES Plus agenda, warning that all markets in Lagos must strictly observe proper waste management practices.
The latest shutdown suggests renewed enforcement actions amid fresh concerns over the market’s level of compliance.
