The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has warned motorists and members of the public against fraudulent text messages and malicious links falsely claiming that recipients have committed traffic offences.
The ministry said the messages were part of scams designed to deceive motorists and obtain sensitive personal and banking information.
In an advisory posted on its X handle on Friday, the ministry urged motorists not to click on unverified links, disclose personal details or make payments through third-party platforms.
It warned that some of the fake messages and websites were designed to appear as legitimate channels for settling traffic violations, but were instead intended to steal confidential information from unsuspecting motorists.
The ministry also cautioned motorists against websites and platforms offering discounts on traffic penalties.
It stressed that the Lagos State Government does not offer discounts on traffic fines through any of its platforms, adding that statutory penalties are fixed.
Motorists were advised to verify the authenticity of traffic tickets and check their vehicle status only through approved government platforms.
The ministry identified payvis.ng and tms.lagosstate.gov.ng as the official platforms for such services.
It further urged members of the public to be cautious when receiving unsolicited messages about traffic violations and to avoid making payments or sharing personal or banking details through suspicious links.
The warning follows concerns over fraudulent online platforms targeting motorists with fake traffic offence notices and payment requests.
