The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has denied online claims that another building collapsed in the Alakija area of Lagos State.
In a statement on Thursday, the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the reports making the rounds on social media were untrue and misleading.
He explained that once the allegation surfaced, emergency responders were immediately dispatched to the location to verify the situation. After a detailed inspection of the area, officials confirmed that there was no sign of any fresh building collapse.
“Following the receipt of the information, the Agency immediately deployed personnel to assess the reported location.”
“After a thorough sweep of the area, no evidence of a second building collapse was found,” the statement read.
He cautioned members of the public against sharing unverified emergency information, stressing that such false reports can disrupt response efforts and drain emergency resources.
“The circulation of false emergency reports diverts critical resources, dissipates operational efforts and may delay response to genuine emergencies where lives are at risk,” he stated.
He further urged residents to always confirm information before circulating it online and to use official channels when reporting emergencies so proper verification can be done.
Oke-Osanyintolu also reiterated the agency’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property through coordinated emergency operations under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
The clarification follows a recent building collapse in the same area that resulted in deaths and injuries and required an extensive rescue operation by emergency services.
