Legacy FM, a private radio station in Ebonyi State, has lifted the suspension of its acting General Manager, Odoh Godfrey Chikwere.
The management announced on Monday evening that Chikwere should resume work immediately from Tuesday, 12 August 2025.
The station had suspended him on Saturday, 9 August 2025, over allegations that he criticised State Governor Francis Nwifuru. Reports indicated that the suspension followed a series of criticisms aired on the station and posted on Chikwere’s social media platforms on Friday, 8 August 2025.
Management said it acted over his “unruly behaviour” and breach of the station’s code of conduct.
In its earlier statement, the station declared:
“The management of Legacy FM 95.1, The Sound of Now, hereby suspends the acting General Manager, Godfrey Chikwere, with immediate effect, till further notice.
This is due to unruly behaviour and disobedience to the code of conduct guiding the Legacy FM.
With such effect, he is hereby directed to hand over all the company property in his possession to the next senior officer.”
In a Facebook post the day before his suspension, Chikwere accused the administration of poor communication, underperformance by appointees, and a lack of clear policy direction. He also advised Governor Nwifuru to “step on toes to achieve results,” claiming the current situation had weakened the governor’s support base.
Responding to the allegations, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, dismissed the criticisms as baseless. He described Chikwere as ungrateful, citing the government’s support for the radio station, including a new SUV, a transformer, and the construction of the access road to the station.
