The Oyo State Government has announced a 16-hour curfew across 10 local government areas, effective Wednesday, 24 June 2026.
The curfew was approved by Governor Seyi Makinde and will be observed daily from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. for an initial duration of 48 hours.
The announcement was made in a memo signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde. He explained that the action was taken in response to security challenges in communities adjoining the Old Oyo National Park.
According to the statement, “Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the declaration of a 16-hour curfew in 10 local government areas of the state.”
It further stated that “the curfew takes effect from Wednesday, June 24, 2026, and will run between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. for 48 hours in the first instance.”
Professor Babatunde noted that the order covers local government areas surrounding the Old Oyo National Park and said the decision was necessary to protect lives and property within the affected locations.
“The curfew affects local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park,” the statement said.
The affected local government areas include Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo, and Atiba.
Residents in the affected councils have been advised to strictly obey the directive and support security personnel assigned to enforce the curfew.
The state government also indicated that additional instructions would be issued after a review of the security situation at the conclusion of the initial 48-hour period.
