Makinde signs new executive order, says “Insecurity becoming more sophisticated”

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state has signed an executive order to regulate the activities of associations and groups offering security-related services in the state.

Makinde signed the executive order no 1 of 2026 titled, “Executive Order on the Regulation of Associations, Groups and Organisations Offering Security and Allied Services in Oyo State”, on Wednesday.

Speaking after signing the document, Makinde said the executive order becomes necessary to facilitate coordination of security efforts since insecurity has become “more sophisticated”.

He noted that the order was designed to ensure that “all groups involved in security-related activities operate within a clear legal and operational framework that supports peace, order, and the rule of law.”

The governor said the signing of the executive order is another step to protecting the lives and properties of residents of the state.

“The executive order that I just signed is another step in our commitment to the protection of lives and properties across Oyo state,” he said.

“Security is not the responsibility of the government alone. It is a collective duty, and we will appreciate the many citizens, associations, and groups who continue to support lawful efforts to keep our communities safe.

“However, at a time when insecurity has become more sophisticated, coordination, accountability, and proper regulation has become necessary.

“This executive order is therefore designed to ensure that all groups involved in security-related activities operate within a clear legal and operational framework that support peace, order, and rule of law.”

Makinde noted that security agencies are working to ensure the safe release of schoolchildren and teachers kidnapped from schools in Oriire LGA of the state.

On May 15, armed men attacked schools and surrounding communities in Oriire LGA of Oyo state, abducting pupils, students and teachers.

The attacks affected Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, Community Grammar School, and L.A Primary School in Esin Ele, all within the Ogbomoso axis
