Man remanded for abduction, defilement in Akure

A 29-year-old man, Itunu Abiodun, has been remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre for allegedly abducting and defiling a 14-year-old girl.

The defendant is facing a two-count charge of child abduction and defilement before the Family Magistrates’ Court sitting in Akure.

Police prosecutor, Mr Martins Olowofeso, informed the court that the offence took place on  March 25, 2025 at Kolawole Street, in the Oke-Aro Tuntun area of Akure, the state capital.

He alleged that the defendant unlawfully abducted the teenager, Okoye Chinaza, and defiled her without her consent.

The offence is said to contravene Sections 221(2) and 225 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him in court.

The prosecutor requested that the court remand the defendant pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Magistrate Temitope Alphonso granted the application and ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre until the DPP’s advice is received.

The case was adjourned until  June 17, 2025 for further mention.

In a related incident earlier this month, gunmen abducted a well-known commercial bus driver, Muihili Adebayo, in Owo, Ondo State, killing his son and injuring his wife during the attack.

The incident occurred at Adebayo’s residence in the Shagari area of Owo Local Government Area.

A neighbour, speaking to Channels Television, said Adebayo’s wife was shot while resisting the abductors, and one of their children was tragically killed in the struggle.
