The chairman and chief executive of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Abdullahi Usman, has stepped down from his role.
A source familiar with the matter told newsmen that Usman submitted his resignation on Monday night after what was described as “deep personal reflection”.
According to reports, the decision was solely his and was not influenced by any internal disputes, leadership challenges, or outside pressure.
TheCable gathered that Usman believed he had made meaningful contributions to strengthening corporate governance, institutional discipline, and operational stability at NAHCON during his time in office.
He reportedly opted to resign quietly, convinced that doing so was in the best interest of the commission.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the federal government nor NAHCON had issued an official statement on the development.
Usman was appointed chairman of NAHCON by President Bola Tinubu in August 2024, following the removal of Jalal Arabi, who was being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over the alleged mismanagement of the N90 billion presidential subsidy for the 2024 hajj.
