The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has condemned the recent suicide bomb attacks in Maiduguri, describing the incident as a senseless act of violence that claimed innocent lives and left many others injured.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Coordinator of NANS Zone E (North-East), Muazu Hina, expressed deep sympathy with the government and people of Borno State, especially families who lost loved ones in the attacks.
“We condemn in the strongest terms the recent suicide bomb attacks that rocked Maiduguri. This is a tragic and senseless act of violence against innocent citizens,” Hina said.
He added that the association stands in solidarity with the victims and offered prayers for the quick recovery of those injured.
“Our thoughts are with the families affected by this tragedy. We pray for the quick recovery of the injured and strength for those who have lost loved ones,” he said.
NANS also urged security agencies to immediately begin a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident, with the aim of bringing those responsible to justice.
“We call on security agencies to carry out an immediate, thorough, and transparent investigation into the attack, identify the perpetrators and their sponsors, and ensure they are brought to justice without delay,” Hina stated.
The student body further called on authorities to strengthen intelligence gathering and increase security presence in vulnerable areas to prevent future attacks.
Hina also appealed to the Federal Government to step up efforts in addressing insecurity in the North-East, stressing the need to ensure the safety of students in the region.
“The Federal Government must intensify efforts in addressing insecurity in the North-East and ensure the safety of students, especially those studying in institutions within the region,” he said.
Recall that three suicide bombings occurred almost at the same time on Monday night at the Maiduguri Monday Market, the Post Office, and an area near the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, leaving at least 23 people dead and over 100 others injured.
Families have since been searching for loved ones believed to have been at the affected locations following the blasts, which killed 23 people and injured 108 others.
