NAPTIP summons Speed Darlington over alleged confession of abuse involving minor

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has issued a formal summons to controversial musician Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, following his claims in a viral video about engaging in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old.

Speed Darlington caused widespread outrage online after footage emerged in which he admitted to inappropriate conduct with a minor. In response, NAPTIP publicly called on him to appear for questioning.

“Mr. Darlington Okoye (AKA Speed Darlington) is urged to respond to the official invitation issued on May 28, 2025, regarding a viral video and others in which he admitted to sexually abusing a minor,” the agency posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account. “Failure to respond may lead to further action,” it added.

In its two-page summons, NAPTIP stated:

“We write to formally invite you to appear before the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in respect of certain video materials recently circulated online, including but not limited to a particular Instagram video wherein you allegedly made statements admitting to having engaged in sexual acts with an underage girl. Additional archived videos, now in circulation, similarly contain admissions and degrading commentary concerning minors.

“These actions, if substantiated, constitute offences under the

‘Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act (TIPPEA) 2015’

and the

‘Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.’

“You are hereby invited to appear in person for an interview as regards the alleged actions on Friday, 30th May, 2025, by 9 a.m. at the NAPTIP Headquarters: 2028 Dalaba Crescent, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, FCT.

Kindly bring along any legal representation or documents you may consider relevant.

Please be informed that your cooperation is critical to ensuring a fair and thorough inquiry into the matter. Failure to honour this invitation may result in further legal action.”

The controversial video also drew the attention of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), which reportedly escalated the matter to NAPTIP for further investigation.

In a subsequent video, Speed Darlington claimed his original remarks were a publicity stunt intended to promote his latest song. He issued an apology to those offended by the statement.
