National Assembly tightens security around Akpabio’s office

The sergeant-at-arms at the national assembly, Etido Ekpo, has introduced new security measures restricting access to the office of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

In a memo dated October 2, Ekpo announced that the corridor connecting the White House lobby to the senate president’s office will now be strictly reserved for senators and members of the house of representatives.

According to the memo, aides and personal assistants will no longer be granted entry through the passage.

“You are kindly requested to disseminate this information to distinguished senators who would in turn intimate their aides or personal assistants as appropriate,” the memo stated.

Ekpo, a retired brigadier-general, explained that the restrictions are aimed at ensuring a “secure and safe environment” for legislative activities.

The national assembly is scheduled to resume plenary on October 7 after a recess lasting over two months.
