Nationwide blackout as national grid records another collapse

Many areas across Nigeria experienced a blackout on Monday following a collapse of the national power grid.

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) confirmed the incident in a statement posted on X.

NISO, which manages the nation’s electricity supply to distribution companies, stated that power output fell to 50 megawatts as efforts to restore the grid were underway.

As of the time of filing the report, NISO said only Abuja and Ibadan had 50 megawatts of electricity as against the 3,660 MW allocated on Sunday, December 28, 2025.
