Navy rescues building collapse victims in Lagos

The Nigerian Navy has rescued several victims, including children, following the collapse of a building in the Alakija area of Lagos State, reaffirming its commitment to humanitarian assistance and support for civil authorities.

In a statement on Monday, the Director of Naval Information, Abiodun Folorunsho, said naval personnel responded immediately after receiving a distress call and joined other emergency agencies in the search-and-rescue operation.

According to him, the swift intervention enabled rescuers to pull several victims from the rubble and transport them for urgent medical attention.

“The rescued victims were immediately transported to the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Ojo, Lagos, where they received emergency medical treatment and ongoing care from the hospital’s medical personnel,” the statement said.

The Navy assured that it would continue to provide the necessary medical support to those affected by the incident.

The Chief of Naval Staff also commended the bravery and professionalism of the rescue teams and medical personnel at the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Ojo, while appreciating the cooperation of other emergency responders and members of the public.

The service extended its condolences to families of the victims and wished those injured a speedy recovery.

“The Nigerian Navy reassures Nigerians of its continued readiness to provide humanitarian assistance and support to civil authorities whenever called upon, in line with its constitutional responsibilities,” the statement added.
