NCAA reports increase in passenger refunds to ₦257m

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has reported that passenger refunds between January and August 2025 reached N257.2 million.

This marks a sharp increase compared to N108.3 million recorded during the same period in 2024 and N32.8 million in 2023.

According to the latest figures released by the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, the rise followed the regulator’s continuous engagement with airlines and a sensitisation campaign targeted at air travellers.

Refunds for hotel accommodation, provided under Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations, also rose to N6.08 million as of July 2025, backed by verified reports from hotels in Abuja, Asaba, and Lagos.

Achimugu linked the surge to improved compliance by airlines with the NCAA’s consumer protection framework, despite ongoing industry challenges.

He described the progress as one of the Authority’s proudest milestones in its 25-year history, stating that “more passengers are being protected now than ever before.”

He further assured that the Authority will continue working to safeguard the rights of passengers.
