NDC refutes claims of announced Enugu primary outcome

The national leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress has distanced itself from various results of its Enugu State primaries currently circulating online, insisting that no official declaration has been made.

The party said its primary elections for presidential, governorship, National Assembly and State Assembly positions were successfully held across the state on Friday, with members participating through the direct primary system.

Speaking in Enugu on Saturday, National Secretary of the party, Mr Ikenna Morgan, said the exercise was conducted in accordance with electoral regulations and the party’s constitution under the supervision of the National Electoral Committee and INEC observers.

He said, “The Nigeria Democratic Congress successfully conducted its primary elections in Enugu State on Friday, May 29, 2026. The process was monitored by our National Electoral Committee and observed by representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“The exercise was orderly, transparent and conducted in line with the Electoral Act and the constitution of our great party. It was a direct primary in which every eligible member of the party voted for their preferred candidate.”

Morgan noted that although votes had been collated and reviewed, the party had yet to formally release the outcome of the exercise.

He warned aspirants and supporters against accepting information from unofficial sources, stressing that any results being shared on social media or blogs did not originate from the party.

“The results of the primary elections have been duly collated by the party. However, contrary to several reports circulating online, no official announcement has yet been made by the National Electoral Committee or the national leadership of the party. Any individual or platform claiming to possess or announce official results is acting without authorisation,” Morgan added.

He assured contestants that due process would be followed before the successful candidates are unveiled, adding that the names of those who emerge from the primaries would be forwarded to INEC after all necessary party procedures have been completed.
