NDLEA raids Kano drug hideouts, arrests 52 suspects

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Kano Strategic Command, has carried out raids on several drug dens, arresting no fewer than 52 suspects and seizing various illicit substances within a two-day operation in Kano.

This was confirmed in a statement on Wednesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics Sadiq Maigatari.

“The NDLEA Kano State Strategic Command launches’ Operation Sharar Mafaka’; Raids Multiple Drug Dens, arrests 52 suspects and seizes assorted Illicit Substances in two days,” the statement said.

The Command, led by CN DY Lawal, said it has launched “Operation Sharar Mafaka”, a sustained effort aimed at clearing and taking control of notorious drug locations across Kano metropolis.

The operation, which commenced on 27 April 2026, focused on more than 20 identified drug hotspots and led to multiple arrests and seizures over two days.

“At the launch on 27 April, operatives raided the infamous Filin Idi drug dens, Tashar Rami, Fagge, Abattoir, and Farm Centre, arresting 15 suspects and seizing quantities of illicit substances and paraphernalia.

“Acting on the operation’s momentum, officers conducted further raids on the morning of 28 April in Hotoro Flyover, Mariri Park, Ramin Jirga Tishama, Yankaba Park, and Audu Bako Secretariat, arresting an additional 16 suspects, including 3 female suspects, and recovering assorted illicit drugs and locally made weapons.

“On the evening of 28 April, additional operations in Kwanar Ungogo, Titin Jajira, Tudun Bojuwa and parts of Sabon Gari yielded 21 more arrests, including one female suspect, and the seizure of various illicit substances and evidentiary items,” the statement added.

In total, 52 suspects, including four females, were arrested, while assorted drugs and related materials were recovered.

Speaking on the operation, CN DY Lawal described the strategy as “dislodge and occupy”, stating: “We will dislodge criminal joints, arrest suspects, seize exhibits, and occupy premises until normalcy is restored.

He added that the operation will continue under “Operation Sharar Mafaka” and urged members of the public to support the agency’s efforts to make Kano streets safer.

The NDLEA said the operation forms part of its ongoing campaign to dismantle drug networks and restore public safety, in line with the vision of its Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd), for a drug-free society.

The Command also reaffirmed its commitment to sustained enforcement, community engagement, and collaboration with residents to eradicate illicit drug activity.
