The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a suspected drug trafficker in Taraba State after recovering more than one metric tonne of cannabis sativa during a targeted operation in Bali Local Government Area.
According to the agency, operatives acting on credible intelligence carried out a raid in Maihula town on June 13, leading to the arrest of 45-year-old Ali Adamu. A search of a warehouse linked to the suspect resulted in the recovery of 63 jumbo bags of cannabis weighing 1,121.5 kilograms.
The Taraba State Commander of the NDLEA, Javanson Kwalma, described the seizure as a major breakthrough in the agency’s campaign against illicit drug trafficking and substance abuse.
He said the operation demonstrated the commitment, vigilance and professionalism of officers of the state command, noting that the interception prevented a significant quantity of illegal drugs from reaching communities and endangering lives, particularly those of young people.
Kwalma disclosed that the suspect remains in custody while investigations continue to determine the source of the consignment and identify other individuals connected to the alleged trafficking network. He added that the suspect would be prosecuted in accordance with the law once investigations are completed.
The NDLEA commander also commended the agency’s leadership, the Taraba State Government, security agencies and members of the public for their support and intelligence-sharing efforts.
He urged residents to continue providing useful information on drug-related activities, stressing that public cooperation remains vital to the fight against drug trafficking and abuse. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling criminal networks and promoting safer communities across the state.
