Neighbour accused of defiling eight-years-old girl arrested in Bauchi

A 45-year-old man has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command over the alleged defilement of his neighbour’s eight-year-old daughter.

The command announced the arrest in a statement on Tuesday through its spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib.

According to the police, the case was reported by the child’s 32-year-old mother, who accused the suspect, Muhammad Makama, of taking the girl into his room and allegedly sexually abusing her.

“The incident was reported to ‘E’ Division Yelwa, Bauchi, on 5th July, 2026, at about 22:14 hrs by the 32-year-old mother of the victim, who resides at Dorawan Dillalai, Bauchi.

“The complainant alleged that on the same date at about 1211hrs, one Muhammad Makama ‘m’, 45 years old, of the same address, lured her 8-year-old daughter into his room and defiled her.

“Upon receipt of the report, police operatives immediately swung into action. The victim was taken to the Police Clinic for medical examination and treatment.”

Police said the suspect sustained injuries after he was reportedly attacked by residents following the allegation. He was taken to the same medical facility for treatment before being discharged.

Investigators have since transferred the case to the Gender Laboratory of the State Criminal Investigation Department, where further investigation and prosecution are expected to continue.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, denounced the alleged offence and reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring the suspect is brought to justice if found culpable.
