The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has strongly condemned the recent killing of a 22-year-old Nigerian e-hailing driver, Isaac Satlet, in Pretoria, South Africa.
In a statement released on Sunday by NiDCOM spokesperson Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa called for justice, urging authorities to ensure the arrest and prosecution of those responsible. She described the rising cases of crimes and killings involving Nigerians in South Africa as deeply troubling and a matter of serious concern.
While acknowledging the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and South Africa as fellow African nations, the NiDCOM boss questioned why certain individuals continue to perpetrate violent acts against fellow Africans.
Dabiri-Erewa appealed to South African authorities to guarantee justice for the slain driver and to safeguard the lives and property of foreign nationals residing in the country. She also emphasised the importance of reinforcing rapid response strategies and establishing structured escalation mechanisms to address diaspora-related incidents effectively.
NiDCOM reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening risk assessment measures and enhancing structured engagement with host governments. Reports indicate that a female suspect has been arrested in connection with the killing of Isaac Satlet in Pretoria West, South Africa.
