Niger Delta Youths protest, barricade NNPCL HQ

A coalition of Niger Delta youth leaders staged a protest on Wednesday at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) Towers in Abuja.

The protesters arrived at the complex around 6 a.m., blocking both entrance and exit gates. They carried banners as they marched along Herbert Macaulay Way in the Central Business District, disrupting vehicular traffic.

One banner demanded the resignation of the Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Bashir Ojulari, over alleged corruption and mismanagement. The youths also called for the appointment of a Niger Delta indigene as the NNPCL’s chief executive.

Security operatives, including police officers, diverted traffic to a single lane near the towers to ease congestion. Workers had to park their vehicles some distance from the gates as the protest continued.
