The Niger State Government has advised residents to ignore reports of bandit invasions and continue their daily activities without fear.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Obed Nana, assured residents especially those in the education sector that schools across the state remain safe for teaching and learning.
The clarification followed rumours circulating on social media alleging attacks on schools in Minna and surrounding communities, which reportedly caused panic and led to the temporary closure of some schools as students and staff were sent home.
Nana described the reports as false, explaining that they included claims of attacks in areas such as Bosso, Kpakungu, Sabon-Wuse, Lambata, and other parts of the state.
He stressed that security agencies, alongside relevant ministries, confirmed that no such attacks occurred and that the information being circulated was intended to create unnecessary fear.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to the safety of students and school personnel, noting ongoing collaboration with security agencies, school administrators, and community leaders to strengthen protection around educational institutions.
Parents and guardians were urged to remain calm and ensure their children continue attending school, as adequate security arrangements have been put in place.
The state Commissioner of Police, Adamu Elleman, also directed divisional police officers to work closely with schools under existing protection programmes and increase patrols around educational facilities.
Police authorities further provided emergency contact numbers for residents to report any suspicious movements or security concerns.
