The Federal Government has extended heartfelt condolences to the Republic of India following the fatal crash of Air India Flight 171 in Ahmedabad on Thursday, which claimed over 290 lives.
In an official statement issued by Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa, Nigeria expressed deep sorrow over the incident and pledged solidarity with the Indian government and its people during what was described as a time of immense grief.
According to preliminary reports, no Nigerian nationals were aboard the ill-fated flight. However, Nigeria’s High Commission in New Delhi remains in contact with Indian authorities to confirm this and stands ready to offer consular assistance if needed.
“The Federal Republic of Nigeria expresses profound sorrow and extends its heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of the Republic of India over the tragic crash of Air India Flight 171,” the statement read.
“Nigeria stands in solidarity with India during this period of immense grief and unfortunate loss.”
The government also emphasised the urgent need to strengthen global aviation safety and lent its support to calls for a full investigation into the tragedy, aiming to prevent such incidents in the future.
“Nigeria reaffirms its commitment to global aviation safety and supports a thorough inquiry into the crash,” Ebienfa noted.
The statement concluded by offering sympathy to the bereaved families and all those affected by the tragic incident.
