Nigeria recorded zero cases of Piracy in five years- Naval Chief

Nigeria has recorded no incidents of piracy on its waterways in the past five years, the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, said on Saturday.

Ogalla, represented by Rear Admiral Gabriel Aligwe, Chief of Administration at the Nigerian Navy School, Ikot Ntuen, made the disclosure while speaking to journalists during the passing-out parade of the 2025 set of young sailors in Akwa Ibom State.

He explained that operations such as Operation Delta Sanity, routine patrols, and constant surveillance had made the nation’s waterways secure. “For about five years now, Nigeria has recorded zero cases of piracy, which reflects the commitment of our men who consistently patrol the waterways,” Ogalla stated.

He urged the graduating sailors to remain resilient and pursue their dreams, noting that their training provided a solid foundation for rewarding military careers. Some, he said, would join the Nigerian Defence Academy, while others would serve directly in the Navy.

Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, represented by the Commissioner for Education, Ubong Umoh, congratulated the graduates for excelling in both academic and military training. He encouraged them to remain focused, avoid vices, and use their skills to contribute positively to society.
