Nigeria will not bow, Tinubu warns threat actors

President Bola Tinubu has issued a stern warning to what he termed “domestic collaborators and foreign agents” attempting to destabilise Nigeria, declaring that the nation will never submit to fear, terror, or betrayal.

During an official visit on Friday to frontline troops of the Nigerian Armed Forces in Katsina State, the President reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to national security and the welfare of military personnel.

“To those who seek to destabilise our nation—be they domestic collaborators or foreign agents—hear this: Nigeria will not bow. Not to fear. Not to terror. Not to treachery,” Tinubu declared.

Addressing the soldiers directly, he hailed their bravery and commitment, calling them the “shield of Nigeria” and the “silent guardians of our democracy.”

“You are the brave sons and daughters who stand between our people and the forces of terror. Every inch of ground you hold, every terrorist you neutralise, and every community you secure is a victory for justice, freedom, and the future of our children,” he said.

‘Insurgency Long Overdue for Defeat’

Underscoring the critical state of national security, Tinubu described the situation as a “defining moment in our history,” and urged the troops to bring an end to terrorism, banditry, and insurgency.

“These threats have lingered for far too long. Nigerians are relying on you to end this menace and reclaim every inch of our land,” he stated.

The President also outlined measures being taken to strengthen military capability, including the deployment of advanced weaponry, enhanced intelligence gathering, and improved logistics.

“We are not merely defending our country; we are taking the fight to the enemy. You will have the tools you need to dominate and defeat any adversary,” Tinubu said.

He gave assurances that the welfare of service members remains a top priority, with specific reference to improved pay, housing schemes, medical care, and support for families.

“We are committed to ensuring your allowances are paid promptly, your healthcare is secured, and your families are protected. Your dignity will never be compromised,” he added.

Renewed Violence and Rising Insecurity

Tinubu’s address comes amid growing concern over renewed violence in the North. In April, over 150 lives were lost in coordinated attacks across Benue and Plateau states, including over 100 fatalities in Bokkos and Bassa—among the most devastating incidents since the 2023 Christmas Eve massacre.

In the North-East, a suspected Boko Haram resurgence saw ISWAP militants carry out bomb attacks in Borno State, killing at least 26 people. In response, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar has been appointed to lead counter-insurgency operations in the region.

Despite mounting public scrutiny of his administration’s handling of national security, President Tinubu remained resolute, urging the military to hold fast.

“Let your resolve echo through every valley and forest. Let the enemies of Nigeria know—their time is up,” he declared. “With your valour and discipline, peace shall prevail. Nigeria depends on you, and I am with you—today, tomorrow, and always.”
