Nigerian Army foils Bandit invasion in Kebbi

The Nigerian Army’s 223 Light Battalion in Zuru, Kebbi State, successfully repelled a large-scale attack on Ribah town in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area on Wednesday.

Over 400 armed bandits stormed the town in an attempted takeover, but were met with fierce resistance from military forces.

According to Alhaji AbdulRahman Zagga, Director of Security in the Kebbi State Cabinet Office, a prolonged gun battle ensued, resulting in the neutralisation of many attackers. While some bandits managed to carry away their fallen comrades, several bodies were left behind alongside a stockpile of recovered weapons.

Zagga praised the bravery of the soldiers and highlighted the critical role played by the Nigerian Air Force, whose airstrikes on fleeing bandits dealt additional blows to the attackers.

“Despite initial panic in the community, normalcy has been fully restored,” Zagga said.

He further suggested that the attackers may have been the same group responsible for a recent assault in Niger State, crossing into Kebbi in an attempt to launch another strike.

Foiled Attack in Mera

In a separate incident on the same day, troops from Dukku Barracks repelled another group of bandits in Mera, Augie Local Government Area. The attackers, identified as the Lakurawa gang, attempted to rustle cattle but were forced to flee under army fire.

Governor Commends Security Forces

Governor Nasir Idris lauded the swift action of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies, affirming his administration’s continued support for frontline troops.

“These victories underscore our commitment to ensuring the safety of our people,” the governor said.

Just days earlier, a joint security team in the state rescued six abducted individuals and recovered herds of stolen cattle from Kokanawa and Ukuhu communities, further highlighting intensified security operations in the region.
