Nigeria’s trailblazing female fighter pilot, Flight Lieutenant Kafayat Sanni, has once again etched her name in the history books by emerging as the Best Allied Student and recipient of the Best Assistant Commandant Paper award at the prestigious Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) in Accra.
The honours were presented during the college’s graduation ceremony on Friday, which drew top-ranking military officials and dignitaries from across the African continent.
Flt Lt Sanni first gained national attention in 2019 when she was commissioned as the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF) first female fighter pilot, following her flight training in the United States.
Since then, she has piloted the Alpha Jet and served as a skilled instructor on the Super Mushshak aircraft, playing a key role in training and mentoring the next generation of NAF pilots.
Her stellar performance at GAFCSC not only highlights her personal drive and excellence but also represents Nigeria’s growing prominence in regional defence leadership and its continued commitment to promoting gender inclusion within the military.
This milestone also reflects the Nigerian Air Force’s sustained focus on human capital development, championed under the leadership of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar.
