NIMC launches digital pre-enrolment platform to speed up identity registration

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has rolled out a Pre-Enrolment Portal that enables applicants to safely provide their information, upload necessary documents, and book appointments ahead of biometric capture.

In a statement shared on its X handle on Friday, NIMC explained that the portal aims to shorten waiting periods at enrolment centres, enhance the accuracy of submitted data, and deliver a more seamless registration process for citizens.

The commission stated that the launch demonstrates its dedication to delivering efficient, secure, and citizen-focused digital identity services, while making enrolment easier and more accessible for Nigerians.

According to the Head of Corporate Communication at NIMC, Dr Kayode Adegoke, the commission noted that the newly introduced digital platform allows intending applicants—both residents in Nigeria and those in the Diaspora—to input and submit their biodata online before visiting enrolment centres for biometric capture.

The initiative is expected to ease overcrowding and reduce prolonged queues at enrolment centres across the country.

NIMC also highlighted that the programme aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which places emphasis on digital transformation, effective service delivery, and inclusive national growth.

The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NIMC, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, said the portal would make the enrolment process simpler by allowing applicants to complete a substantial part of their registration online prior to in-person biometric capture.

The portal’s key functions include online collection and management of NIN biodata, appointment booking to limit delays at enrolment centres, and applicant-driven data entry to improve accuracy.

In addition, the platform ensures secure and confidential handling of user data, enables easy upload of required documents, and boosts overall operational efficiency.

NIMC urged all prospective NIN applicants to make use of the Pre-Enrolment Portal, describing it as a quicker and more convenient route to NIN registration.

The commission added that the initiative reinforces its commitment to developing a dependable and inclusive digital identity system that supports national planning and development.
