Nine corps members to extend service as 933 pass out in Anambra

A total of 933 members of the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream I of the National Youth Service Corps have been discharged after completing their one-year mandatory national service in Anambra State, while nine others will undergo the programme again for absconding.

The State Coordinator of the NYSC, Pauline Ojisua, announced this during the passing-out ceremony held on Thursday across the 21 local government areas of the state.

She disclosed that two corps members had their service extended due to disciplinary infractions, while five earned permanent employment after impressing their employers during the service year.

Speaking to the outgoing corps members in Ihiala, Ojisua urged them not to rely solely on government or office jobs but to take advantage of the entrepreneurial and vocational skills they acquired through the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme.

“Today, you are formally discharged from the National Youth Service Corps after successfully completing the one-year mandatory national service. We pray and wish you journey mercies and God’s protection as you return to your various destinations to begin a new phase of your lives.

“We also encouraged you to remain productive by engaging in meaningful ventures capable of creating sustainable livelihoods and contributing to national development.

“You are also advised to join the NYSC Foundation to sustain the relationship with the Scheme and continue supporting its objectives,” she said.

Ojisua said all 933 eligible corps members were presented with their Certificates of National Service, while the nine who abandoned their service would repeat the entire programme in line with NYSC regulations.

“Record of the service year showed that 933 corps members were issued with Certificates of National Service, while nine corps members who absconded from service would repeat the entire service year in line with the provisions of the NYSC bye-laws,” she added.

She noted that while two corps members had their service year extended over disciplinary matters, five others were offered employment by their organisations in recognition of their excellent conduct and performance.
