Nine people lost their lives and several others were injured in a fatal road accident that occurred early Saturday morning in Kyaramma village, located in the Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
According to a statement from the Jigawa State Police Command, the crash happened around 2:00 a.m. and involved two Golf 3 saloon cars.
The statement, signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, revealed that one of the vehicles, a Golf 3 with registration number Kaduna MKA 687 AY, was driven by 35-year-old Adamu Sunusi from Hadejia LGA. He was reportedly traveling from Abuja to Gujungu town at the time of the accident.
The second car, registered as KWL 606 KA, was also driven by 30-year-old Bashari Danjummai of the Sauna area of Nasarawa LGA of Kano State and was also headed towards Kano from the direction of Hadejia.
“On reaching Kyaramma village, the vehicles had a head on collision, as a result, they fell off the road. The crash claimed the lives of nine (9) people, while several others were injured to varying degrees.”
Early reports indicate that the two vehicles, which were on collision courses with each other, crashed into each other near Kyaramma village and skid off the road.
The statement added that the force of impact was fatal, and both drivers and seven passengers died on the spot.
Eleven remaining passengers were injured to some extent.
“Upon receipt of the report, Motor Traffic Department (MTD) personnel arrived on the scene to provide assistance. The injured victims were rushed to Ringim General Hospital, where nine passengers, including the two drivers, were pronounced dead by the on-call doctor.”
