Nine Killed in Boko Haram Attack on Malam Fatori

Nine people have died in a Boko Haram attack on Malam Fatori, a border town in Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State, located 272 kilometres from Maiduguri. Four others sustained injuries during the assault.

In a press statement, the Borno State Government confirmed that Governor Babagana Zulum, represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Emirate Affairs, Hon Sugun Mai Mele, visited the community to offer condolences and financial support to the victims’ families.

“We are here on behalf of His Excellency, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, who is currently abroad on official duties, to commiserate with the people of Malam Fatori following the recent tragic incident. He has assured residents that the state government, in collaboration with the military, will do everything possible to secure the town,” the commissioner said.

Zulum Consoles Malam Fatori Residents, Pledges Support

Governor Zulum, through the commissioner, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting Malam Fatori, highlighting its strategic importance. He urged residents to remain resilient and prayerful in the face of adversity.

Praising the military’s bravery, Hon Mele announced the deployment of excavators to dig trenches around the local government headquarters to strengthen security and prevent further incursions by Boko Haram and ISWAP elements.

He also warned against aiding insurgents: “Anyone found collaborating with Boko Haram will face spiritual consequences, as we shall invoke divine intervention from the Holy Qur’an.”

Each bereaved family received ₦500,000, while the injured individuals undergoing treatment were given ₦250,000 each.

Government to Resettle 3,000 More Families

Also addressing the media, Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar, revealed that the government plans to resettle an additional 3,000 households in Malam Fatori, raising the total number of resettled families to 5,000.

He assured residents of continued government support in terms of security and welfare, and urged them to report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.

The delegation included State Assembly member Jamna Bong, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Internal Security, Aminu Chamalwa, and community elder, Maina Mohammed Tar.
