NNPP expels Kano rep over disloyalty

The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expelled House of Representatives member Abdulmumin Jibrin for alleged anti-party activities and disloyalty.

Jibrin, who represents the Kiru/Bebeji federal constituency, had earlier signalled plans to leave the NNPP.

Announcing the decision, NNPP Chairman in Kano, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, said the party acted after Jibrin’s “repeated acts of sabotage and public defiance.”

“He has persistently attacked the party and its leadership in the media. This is not a matter of personal opinion—it is outright betrayal of the platform that gave him power,” Dungurawa declared.

He described Jibrin as a “weak politician” who rose to prominence only through his association with the Kwankwasiyya movement and the NNPP.

“If he were truly strong, he would have won under the APC, but he failed,” Dungurawa said. “It was only after joining NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he entered the House of Representatives. Now he deceives himself, thinking he is powerful.”

Dungurawa revealed that the party had initially formed a reconciliation committee following Jibrin’s controversial interview with Channels Television. However, Jibrin’s continued public defiance left the party with no alternative.

“Rather than engage in dialogue, he worked against us, openly declaring loyalty elsewhere. That is why we expelled him. He adds no value,” Dungurawa explained.

Beyond the allegations of disloyalty, Dungurawa accused Jibrin of failing to pay mandatory party dues.

“We will take him to court to recover what he owes. Every member is constitutionally required to pay dues, but he consistently refused,” he stated.

Amid speculation that Jibrin may return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dungurawa dismissed fears of mass defections, stressing that the Kwankwasiyya movement remains strong under Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

“Politics relies on groups and coalitions. Kwankwasiyya remains intact and enjoys solid grassroots support in Kano and beyond,” he added.
