NNPP faction urges INEC to quickly enforce FCT court ruling

A faction of the New Nigeria People’s Party has called on Independent National Electoral Commission to promptly implement the Federal Capital Territory High Court order recognising the Agbo Major-led National Working Committee of the party.

Justice Bello Kawu of the FCT High Court had on Tuesday directed INEC to immediately recognise the Major-led NNPP NWC.

In a statement on Saturday in Lagos, the party’s National Secretary, Mr Ogini Olaposi, said INEC should no longer delay uploading the party’s national executives on its website.

The statement emphasised that “the court restrained INEC from dealing and transacting any business with the Dr Ahmed Ajuji-led NWC members of the Kwankwasiya Movement, pending the outcome of the just-concluded judicial review.”

The party stressed that the March 17 court order, compelling INEC to update its records within 72 hours to reflect the authentic NNPP leaders, is binding and that no stay of execution has been issued or served on INEC.

Olaposi urged party members to remain calm and continue nationwide membership drives, noting that with the court’s ruling, the NNPP is now poised to fully participate in the 2027 general elections. He reiterated that expelled members remain so, but those who defected to other parties would be welcomed back.

“With our victory in the court, the sky is now our limit, and we will do our best to make sure that the NNPP thrives in the election and other off-cycle elections nationwide,” the statement added.
