No casualties in Iyamopo Hill collapse – Oyo Govt confirms

The Oyo State Government has announced that no lives were lost in the recent seismic and rock movement at Iyamopo Hill in Igbeti, Olorunsogo Local Government Area.

The administration reassured people about the event in a statement signed by Information Commissioner Dotun Oyelade on Tuesday, claiming that the outage was caused by natural geological processes.

“The disruption is a result of physical weathering on the rock caused by intense heat from February to May, followed by sudden cooling.

“This expansion and contraction led to cracking, peeling, and sheeting of the rock, resulting in minor tremors and rock movements as witnessed over the weekend.”

He assured residents that there was no cause for alarm, stating clearly that no casualties have been recorded in the incident.

To address the situation, the government has dispatched experts from the Oyo State Solid Mineral Development Agency, led by its Director General, Mr Biodun Oni, to carry out on-site evaluations.

Additionally, the state is collaborating with geologists from the University of Ibadan to analyze the geological activity and propose long-term solutions.

As a precautionary measure, residents living near the affected area have been advised to temporarily evacuate pending the outcome of ongoing assessments and mitigation efforts.

“The safety and well-being of our people remain a top priority,” the Commissioner said.

“We urge everyone to remain calm and await further updates as the government continues its investigation and response.”

The Oyo State Government reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and promised to communicate any new developments as they unfold.
