The minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says political parties in Rivers state have effectively merged into a coalition supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.
Wike made the assertion on Wednesday while addressing stakeholders at an event in Asari-Toru LGA of Rivers state.
He said all parties in the state are now aligned under the rainbow coalition, an initiative of the renewed hope family established to mobilise support for Tinubu.
The former Rivers governor explained that the development represents a departure from conventional party lines to a unified political movement aimed at promoting the interests of the state.
“In Rivers, we don’t have any party now. What we have is the renewed hope family. It’s a rainbow coalition,” he said.
“If you don’t belong to this family, then forget it. After delivering President Tinubu, this family will produce everything as far as the state is concerned — governorship and assembly seats.”
Wike said Rivers residents are already reaping the benefits of backing Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.
“This year will be better than last year,” he assured attendees.
The FCT minister expressed gratitude to community leaders and residents for their steadfast support of Tinubu, describing their 2023 backing as a bold decision that is now paying off.
“Continue on this track, and you will continue to reap good results. I assure you that I will stand with you at the appropriate time,” he said.
Since last month, Wike has been touring local government areas in Rivers state, where he has been campaigning—often indirectly—against the re-election of Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers.
Wike has accused Fubara of breaching the agreement both men signed before President Tinubu lifted the emergency rule in the state.
