No place for criminals in Nigeria – Edo Governor

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has said Nigerians must not allow criminals and kidnappers to undermine the country’s peace and development, expressing confidence that the nation will overcome its security concerns.

Speaking during a worship service at LoveWorld City in Benin City, the governor called for sustained prayers to tackle insecurity, particularly kidnapping and cult-related violence, while also seeking divine guidance for the country’s leaders.

He appealed to the congregation to pray for President Bola Tinubu and for Nigeria’s economic recovery, peace, and progress.

According to Okpebholo, criminal activities should never be allowed to define the future of the country.

“This country does not belong to kidnappers. No individual or group should hold the nation captive for personal or political interests,” he said.

The governor observed that reports of abductions often rise during politically sensitive periods but maintained that faith and cooperation among citizens would help address the challenge.

“As elections draw closer, kidnapping has become a growing concern. However, with the prayers of God’s people and collective efforts, we believe these challenges will be overcome,” he added.

He noted that prayers offered for Nigeria would also positively impact Edo State and other parts of the federation.

The church service featured intercessory prayers for national unity, security, economic improvement, and good governance, led by Pastor Moses Olayemi.

Olayemi also acknowledged ongoing infrastructure projects in Edo State, especially road construction efforts, and encouraged the governor to remain committed to delivering development across the state.

“We appreciate the transformation taking place across the state. The roads and other projects are improving daily, and we commend your efforts. May God grant you the resources and strength to complete what you have started,” he said.
