NRC boosts Lagos-Ibadan train services for Sallah travel

The Nigerian Railway Corporation has announced a temporary increase in train services on the Lagos-Ibadan corridor ahead of the Sallah celebration, in anticipation of higher passenger demand.

In a statement on Saturday, the corporation’s spokesperson, Callistus Unyimadu, said the adjustment scheduled for Tuesday, May 26, 2026, is intended to ease travel pressure during the festive period.

He explained that the temporary arrangement will increase trips from four to six on the Lagos-Ibadan route every Tuesday.

According to the NRC, train departures from Lagos will operate at 7:45am, 1:40pm, and 4:00pm, while departures from Ibadan will be scheduled for 8:00am, 10:50am, and 4:30pm.

The corporation stressed that the adjustment is strictly temporary and will revert to the normal schedule after the Sallah celebrations.

“Immediately after the celebration, the normal Tuesday timetable of four trips will resume,” the statement noted.

The NRC also confirmed that the enhanced Thursday schedule of six trips will be temporarily reduced to four trips on Thursday, May 28, 2026, before returning to normal operations the following week.

In addition, the corporation announced that the Osun State government will sponsor its annual free Sallah train service for indigenes travelling from Lagos to Osogbo.

The special service will depart from Iddo Station in Lagos on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, and return from Osogbo to Lagos on Thursday, May 28, 2026.

The NRC said the initiative, carried out through a paid arrangement with the state government, is designed to support safe and affordable travel for citizens during the festive season.

The corporation reaffirmed its commitment to providing safe, reliable, and efficient rail transport services nationwide and wished Nigerians a peaceful Sallah celebration.
