NRC warns passengers against fake train ticket platforms

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has issued a warning about fraudulent platforms posing as authorized ticket vendors and collecting train fare payments through unauthorized and personal bank accounts.

In a statement released Tuesday by Callistus Unyimadu, the NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, the corporation emphasized that it has no connection with such platforms and cautioned the public against transacting with them.

“The NRC wishes to categorically state that these platforms are not affiliated with the Corporation and any payment made through such channels is done at the victim’s risk,” the statement reads.

“Passengers are strongly advised to desist from engaging with these fraudulent sites and must not, under any circumstances, pay into personal or unverified accounts for train bookings.”

The NRC urged passengers to verify any ticketing site via its official website — www.nrc.gov.ng — or through its customer service centres.

“We remain committed to ensuring the safety and satisfaction of all our esteemed passengers,” Unyimadu added.

He also noted that the corporation is working with security agencies to trace and prosecute those behind the fraudulent activities.
