The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ogun State Command, has announced the arrest of 210 suspects linked to vandalism, fraud, and illegal mining over the past 18 months as part of its anti-vandalism campaign.
The Ogun State Commandant, Remilekun Ekundayo, revealed this during a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Abeokuta.
Ekundayo stated that the command also recovered more than ₦23 million in fraud-related cases for victims and settled over 1,700 disputes through alternative dispute resolution within the same period.
She explained that the command has maintained intelligence-led operations that have helped to thwart several criminal activities while safeguarding pipelines, railway corridors, and power installations across the state.
While emphasising that security is a collective responsibility, Ekundayo called for closer collaboration with the media to improve public awareness and safety across the state.
According to her, the visit sought to strengthen cooperation between the corps and the media, describing journalists as vital partners in the state’s security framework.
“In matters of security, your role becomes even more strategic and impactful,” she said.
“The NSCDC is statutorily empowered to protect critical national assets and infrastructure, prevent vandalism and economic sabotage, and support disaster management and emergency response,” she added.
In his remarks, the Ogun State Chairman of the NUJ, Wale Olanrewaju, assured the commandant of the council’s support and continued partnership through accurate and timely reporting of security matters.
