Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano State have thwarted an attempted kidnapping and cattle rustling operation in the Bakin Komau area of Dangora, Kiru Local Government Area.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Abdullahi, disclosed the development in a statement on Friday, revealing that armed attackers struck on Thursday, seriously injuring a shepherd and abducting two individuals while attempting to steal livestock.
According to the statement, NSCDC operatives stationed near the Dansoshiya Forest responded swiftly after receiving a distress call and engaged the assailants in a gun battle.
“Upon receiving a distress report, NSCDC personnel stationed around the nearby Dansoshiya Forest swiftly mobilized to the scene and engaged the criminals in a gun duel.
“Overwhelmed by the superior response of the NSCDC operatives, the suspects abandoned the kidnapped children and fled into the forest with injuries, thereby thwarting the criminal mission,” the statement said.
The rescued victims, identified as Abubakar Saleh, 36, and Muhammad Inuwa Dille, 30, have since been reunited with their families. Meanwhile, the injured shepherd, 70-year-old Alhaji Saleh, received prompt medical attention.
The NSCDC explained that its personnel were deployed to the area to secure an ongoing dam construction project and protect nearby grazing reserves and farming communities from criminal activities.
The Kano State Command, led by Commandant Mohammed Hassan Agalama, reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives, property, and critical national assets across the state.
The command also urged residents to continue providing credible intelligence to security agencies to support swift responses to emerging security threats.
