NSCDC gets new commandant in Akwa Ibom

Jonathan Olariche has assumed duty as the 18th Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Akwa Ibom State.

Olariche, who was previously posted to the NSCDC Zonal Command Headquarters in Awka, called on officers and personnel to renew their commitment to the corps’ mandate.

He made the call on Monday during his maiden briefing at the command’s headquarters in Uyo, where he pledged to protect critical government infrastructure, lives and property.

In a speech titled “Dawn of a New Paradigm,” the new commandant outlined a three-point agenda focused on leadership development, advancement of the corps’ core mandate, and capacity building and empowerment.

He urged officers and men to support the agenda to improve the command’s performance.

“To my respected officers and men of the Akwa Ibom State Command, let me be clear: the achievement of this agenda requires an immediate and total shift in mindset.

“We cannot expect new results with old habits. I call on every officer, from the senior management down to the latest recruit, to embrace a spirit of discipline, dedication, and professional renewal,” he said.

Olariche stressed the need for professionalism, integrity and discipline, warning that the command would not tolerate poor performance.

“Align your attitude with this new paradigm. Let professionalism be your identity, promptness your tradition, and integrity your signature. This Command has a zero-tolerance policy on failure,” he added.

The commandant also vowed to intensify efforts against crime, oil theft, vandalism of critical national assets and other criminal activities in the state.

He appealed to residents to support the corps by providing useful information about suspected criminals and their activities.

Olariche said cooperation between security agencies and residents was essential to building a safer society.

“Security is a collective responsibility. Our doors are ever open for constructive collaboration, intelligence sharing, and mutual respect,” he said.
