The National Youth Service Corps has introduced a new requirement making National Electronic Registration Database (NERD) clearance compulsory for all prospective corps members before they can participate in the mobilisation process.
The scheme announced the directive on Monday through its official X handle, urging prospective corps members to obtain the clearance promptly to prevent setbacks in their mobilisation.
According to the NYSC, anyone who fails to complete the NERD verification process will not be eligible for mobilisation.
“This is to inform PCMs (Prospective Corps Members) that without NERD clearance, no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early. Avoid delays in your mobilisation.”
Reinforcing the directive, the scheme added:
“NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, No NYSC!!!”
The announcement comes as the NYSC intensifies preparations for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ orientation exercise and introduces stricter measures to improve the credibility of its mobilisation process.
It also follows the scheme’s recent advisory urging prospective corps members to avoid night travel while heading to orientation camps. Instead, they were advised to stop over in secure locations, including military or other security formations where available, whenever it becomes unsafe to continue their journey.
While the NYSC did not explain how the NERD clearance would be processed, the latest directive indicates that prospective corps members must complete the verification alongside other registration requirements before they can be mobilised for national service.
