Obasanjo’s daughter, Iyabo suspends Ogun governorship ambition

Iyabo Obasanjo has announced the suspension of her bid to contest the Ogun State governorship election in 2027.

The daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo made the announcement in a statement, explaining that her decision followed the endorsement of Senator Solomon Adeola as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I congratulate him and wish him every success. I also thank the state and national leaders of our great party for the opportunity to participate in the nomination process,” Obasanjo said.

“Based on these developments, I have decided to suspend my gubernatorial aspiration.”

She also appreciated her supporters for their “unwavering trust” throughout her campaign period.

Earlier, Governor Dapo Abiodun had named Adeola as the APC’s preferred candidate for the 2027 election, following consultations within the party’s leadership aimed at promoting unity and continuity.

Adeola currently serves as chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations and previously represented Lagos West before relocating his political base to Ogun State.
