The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed that a four-storey building in the Aguda area of Ogba collapsed after students, teachers, and staff had been safely evacuated.
The structure, situated at 11 Adu Street behind County Hospital, accommodated a nursery, primary, and secondary school.
According to an initial report by LASEMA, distress calls were received at about 12:03 p.m. on Sunday, which triggered the deployment of its response team from the Command and Control Centre in Alausa, Ikeja. The team arrived at the scene by 12:25 p.m. and confirmed that the building had already collapsed.
LASEMA stated that the collapse occurred after an emergency evacuation was carried out when authorities detected signs of structural weakness.
Preliminary assessments revealed that the building had earlier been identified as unsafe, and the evacuation helped to prevent any casualties. Officials noted that the precise cause of the structural defects has not yet been fully established.
Emergency responders present at the scene included LASEMA Response Teams, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), and the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps.
The area was secured to avoid secondary incidents, while the site has been handed over to LASBCA for further investigation and post-incident management.
LASEMA confirmed that the emergency response operation has been concluded and no additional threats were recorded at the location.
