African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has expressed sadness over the death of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.
Atiku paid tribute to the late actor in a social media post, noting that his death came only days after the public learnt about his battle with cancer.
The former vice-president described Hassan as more than a talented actor, highlighting his significant contributions to Nigeria’s entertainment industry and the impact of his work on society.
“Alhaji Taiwo Hassan was more than a gifted actor. Through a remarkable career, he brought laughter into countless homes, told stories that reflected our society, and used his talent not only to entertain but also to educate and inspire social rebirth.
“His passing leaves a painful void in Nigeria’s creative community and in the hearts of the millions who cherished his work,” Atiku said.
He prayed for Allah’s mercy upon the deceased and asked God to grant his family and loved ones the strength to cope with the loss.
“May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, comfort his loved ones and grant him eternal rest in Al-Jannah Firdaus. Ameen,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has announced that Ogogo’s remains would be laid to rest in Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday, August 24, 2026.
Kira Taiwo, one of Ogogo’s daughters, had announced his death at the age of 66 during an Instagram Live session on Sunday, following his battle with stage-four cancer.
In a statement shared on Instagram, Kosoko said the actor’s remains would be taken to his hometown, Ilaro, ahead of the burial arrangements.
He disclosed that a special prayer session in honour of the late actor would be held at the Ilaro Pavilion at 11 a.m. on Monday.
Kosoko wrote: “With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of ALHAJI TAIWO HASSAN, popularly known as OGOGO, who passed away at 3:00 p.m. today Sunday, 23rd August 2026. At 66 years.His remains will be taken to his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State today where special prayers will take place at the pavilion Ilaro tomorrowDate: Monday, 24th August 2026Time: 11:00 a.m.Venue: Pavillon, Ilaro, Ogun State
