The Ogun State Government has urged former governor and current senator for Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, to stop protesting and comply with lawful directives.
Governor Dapo Abiodun’s spokesman, Kayode Akinmade, made the call in response to claims that the state plans to demolish Daniel’s Asoludero residence and Conference Hotel in Sagamu Local Government Area.
Daniel alleged that the government intended to invoke the Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law No. 61 of 2022 to pull down properties built before the law came into effect. He insisted the move was politically motivated and disregarded due process and the rule of law.
Akinmade maintained that Daniel was not above the law. He said the former governor, like other property owners in the area, had received the required notices but chose to resort to “cheap blackmail” instead of presenting his planning permit and land title for verification within the stipulated time.
“The Ogun State Government is not pursuing any improper agenda against Otunba Gbenga Daniel,” Akinmade said. “Governor Abiodun is undertaking urban renewal across Ogun State, having started with Ibara GRA in Abeokuta and extending to Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode GRAs.
“This process involves auditing developments to confirm their permit status. Daniel’s building falls within the Sagamu GRA and is one of many served notices under the Town Planning Law and Regulation of Ogun State.”
