Judiciary workers in Ondo State, under the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), have suspended their strike following a meeting with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
The union ended the industrial action after the governor engaged its leadership to address the grievances that led to the walkout.
The judiciary staff had begun an indefinite strike on June 13, 2025, citing the state government’s failure to implement key aspects of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on financial autonomy for the judiciary.
To resolve the dispute, Governor Aiyedatiwa directed the formation of a committee to develop a framework for the timely release of funds to the judiciary.
The State Commissioner for Finance, Omowunmi Isaac, will chair the committee, which includes both union leaders and government officials.
During the meeting, the Chairman of JUSUN in the state, Oluwafemi Afolabi, outlined the union’s demands and acknowledged the governor’s efforts in supporting the judiciary, particularly the recent increase in the number of High Court judges.
Afolabi praised Aiyedatiwa’s willingness to engage constructively and expressed optimism that the agreement would be fully implemented.
