Osun 2026: APC affirms Bola Oyebamiji as guber candidate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has affirmed Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji as it’s candidate for the Osun 2026 governorship election.

His affirmation was arrived at the end of the governorship primary held on Saturday in Osogbo.

Announcing the affirmation, a former governorship aspirant in the party, Kunle Rasheed Adegoke said his affirmation follows the decision of the APC national working committee.

Adegoke also said the other aspirants stepped down for Oyebamiji.

He said, “I Kunle Adegoke with the consent of all other aspirants move the motion that Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji be adopted as the consensus candidate to contest in the 2026 governorship candidate. I so move.”

Senator Babajide Omoworare also seconded the motion moved by Kunle Rasheed Adegoke making Bola Oyebamiji the consensus governorship candidate of the APC.

The Chairman of the Osun APC governorship primary election committee, Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State later announced Bola Oyebamiji as the APC candidate.

Recall that the former APC governorship aspirants in had earlier agreed to support a consensus candidate after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the presidential villa in Abuja.

The aspirants who signed the declaration were Benedict Olugboyega Alabi, Dotun Babayemi, Akin Ogunbiyi, Babajide Omoworare, Kunle Adegoke, Babatunde Hareter Oralusi, Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Bola Oyebamiji.

“That we unanimously agree to abide by the party’s decision to nominate a consensus candidate for affirmation at the APC Primary Election scheduled for Saturday, 13th December 2025,” the statement had read.

On December 5, the APC screening committee barred Iyiola Omisore, former national secretary of the party, and six other aspirants from contesting the Osun governorship primary scheduled for December 13.

The panel said the seven disqualified aspirants did not present proof of sponsorship by at least five fully registered and financially up-to-date party members from each LGA as required by the APC constitution and guidelines.

Oyebamiji served as the commissioner of finance under the administration of two governors in Osun — Rauf Aregbesola and Gboyega Oyetola.

With today’s affirmation, Oyebamiji is now cleared to contest against the incumbent, Ademola Adeleke who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)to and secured Accord Party’s governorship ticket.

NewsClick Nigeria reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier scheduled the Osun state governorship for August 8, 2025.
