Osun 2026: Forum raises alarm over killings, urges politicians to embrace dialogue

A non-governmental organisation (NGO) in Ọṣun State under the aegis of Forum for Nation Builders and Social Development has raised the alarm over recent violent political developments in the buildup to the governorship election in the state.

The Forum in a statement signed and released on Wednesday expressed deep concern over the growing tension and senseless loss of lives arising from political activities the state.

It noted that politics that was supposed to be about service is now fast becoming a tool of violence stating that no political ambition of any politician should be worth the life of any citizen.

“The Forum finds it disturbing that politics, which should be about service, development, and improving the lives of the people, is increasingly becoming associated with violence, fear, and bloodshed.

No political ambition is worth the life of any citizen.”

The NGO further called on political gladiators in the state to rein on their supporters to exercise caution, embrace dialogue and go about their political activities peacefully.

“We strongly condemn all acts of violence and call on politicians and their supporters to exercise restraint, embrace dialogue, and conduct their activities peacefully.

“The people of Ọṣun State deserve to live without fear and should not be made victims of political disagreements.

“We also urge security agencies to act swiftly and impartially in investigating these incidents and ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice, regardless of their political affiliation.

“As a people, we must place the peace, unity, and progress of Ọṣun State above personal and partisan interests.

The future of our state depends on our collective commitment to peace and responsible leadership,” the statement concluded.
