Osun Assembly passes bill to establish state electricity regulatory commission

The Osun House of Assembly has passed a bill to establish an electricity regulatory commission for the state.

The bill, titled ‘Osun State Electricity Market Regulatory Bill 2025,’ was passed after its third reading on Monday, during plenary in Osogbo.

Kofoworola Adewunmi, House majority leader, moved the motion for the third reading.

The Assembly also passed the Osun State Customary Courts of Appeal Establishment Amendment Bill 2025 and the Osun State District Customary Courts and Customary Court Establishment Amendment Bill 2025.

For assent, Adewale Egbedun, speaker of the house, said clean copies of the bills would be forwarded to Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun.

In 2024, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission began the process of granting states the authority to manage their electricity markets, including the generation, transmission, and distribution of power within their boundaries.
